چکیده

Method: A continuous non-contact scanning method is used in the rectangular slot defect in the different regions of the weld by using a new magnetization system that is vertical to the travelling direction. The characteristics of the weld and the defect are transformed into accurate two-dimensional grayscale graphics through grayscale linear transformation. This is done through the combination of histogram equalization, Otsu’s method of binaryzation, morphologically removing small objects, edge detection, and then structuring a morphologically optimized edge extraction algorithm for edge detection on the grayscale. The displayed grayscale outline locates and quantifies the defects.

Evaluation of Acoustic Emission Inspection of Oil Tank Floor via Tank Bottom Plates Thickness Measurement

This paper deals with an inspection of defects including corrosion and leakage by Acoustic Emission (AE) in an oil tank floor. In contrast to intrusive methods such as magnetic flux leakage, eddy current or ultrasonic, there is no need to emptying and entering the tank in AE method in order to inspection. In this research AE investigation and AE source location is presented in detail. The resul...

Inspection of Internal Tank Welds using the ACFM Inspection Method

This paper describes the application of the ACFM technique for weld inspection and focuses on recent experience in both Europe and Central America in the use of the technique for the inspection of steel storage tanks. Inspection of the tank floor is usually conducted using magnetic flux leakage methods but it is recognised that this cannot be applied to the detection of cracking in the welds jo...

Literature Review: Theory and Application of In-Line Inspection Technologies for Oil and Gas Pipeline Girth Weld Defection

Girth weld cracking is one of the main failure modes in oil and gas pipelines; girth weld cracking inspection has great economic and social significance for the intrinsic safety of pipelines. This paper introduces the typical girth weld defects of oil and gas pipelines and the common nondestructive testing methods, and systematically generalizes the progress in the studies on technical principl...

Giant Magneto-Resistive (GMR) Sensors for Non-Destructive Detection of Magnetic Flux Leakage from Sub-Surface Defects in Steel

There is an increasing demand for using high sensitive sensors which can detect very low levels of magnetic flux leakage from hidden defects or far-side wall loss due to pitting or local corrosion in ferromagnetic steels. This paper discusses the use of highly sensitive tiny GMR sensors for detection of sub-surface defects in carbon steel plates. Notches located at different depths below surfac...

Magnetic Flux Leakage and Acoustic Emission Testing Technique for Atmospheric Storage tanks

In china, atmospheric storage tanks are not included in the management of special equipment, and therefore they are not required to be inspected compulsorily. There is larger difference between China and developed countries on atmospheric storage tank inspection technique than the other techniques on the inspection of pressure vessels. It is widely believed that the strength worsening and perfo...
